PLEASE SEE SAVE OUR STONES
Sighthill Stone Circle
Welcome to the homepage of the Friends of the Sighthill Stone Circle, the first astronomically aligned circle to be built in the UK for 3000 years (as far as we know!). More than 30 years after Duncan was asked to design and build the circle, it’s very encouraging to see a fresh wave of interest in it, particularly that people would like to have it renovated and completed as originally planned. We hope that it will become a local and visitor attraction, after all these years, as originally intended.
The circle was built in 1979 and it is dedicated to four outstanding researchers in the field of ancient astronomy: the late Professor Alexander Thom and Dr. Archie Thom, Prof. Archie Roy and Dr. Euan MacKie, all of whom are closely connected to the city of Glasgow. For more details please see the Brief History section.
Plans have been drawn up for the renovation and completion of the circle, and we are in active discussions on social and educational events which could be generated around it. Funding remains a priority and the nonprofit organisation of Friends of Sighthill Stone Circle will be glad to receive all support and suggestions, be they financial, practical or imaginative. We hope you like the website, and look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Duncan and Linda Lunan.
